A birthday “fit for Royalty” was enjoyed by a visitor to the Museum of Policing in Cheshire.

Eileen Etheridge was due to tour the Warrington venue as a member of her local Oddfellows group recently, but illness prevented her from joining them.

So, a special visit was arranged by her son David and daughter-in-law Lesley, as part of Eileen’s birthday celebrations.

Museum volunteers organised a personal visit…complete with a celebration cake and card to mark her 90th birthday.

Eileen and her family enjoyed the tour taking great interest in the displays and information.

Volunteer Ann said Eileen was guided around the museum in a wheelchair because of difficulties standing for long periods. Eileen said she felt like Royalty being guided around in her “carriage.”

Ann said: “On being shown an old police cape in display cabinet she caught her breath and said her first husband was a police constable in Southport and his number was 135… the Cheshire one on display is number 136.

“She recalled when it got wet in bad weather how it smelled dank like a wet dog, which I remember. Having no central heating it took ages to dry.”

During the tour the visitors stopped for a lovely chat over a cuppa and birthday cake with museum volunteers Ann, Diane and Len.
