Volunteers from Cheshire Police Museum joined the celebrations of the 80th anniversary of VE Day at Culcheth Community Day. Crowds of people enjoyed a host of activities including a strongman competition, music, dancing, games, vintage cars and children’s rides.
Cheery museum volunteers were on hand to chat about their activities, and they were supported by officers PC Thomas Shevlin and PCSO Becky Shevlin.
For visitors there was the opportunity to learn about the museum with its exhibits of police history in the old Victorian Cells, the motorbike and police car and display of firearms. Youngsters had the chance to try on old police uniforms, hats and shields.
Officers Thomas and Becky gave out crime prevention information and stickers, did security marking on bicycles and offered the chance for visitors to have their fingerprints taken.

Museum deputy manager Len Cotterell said: “Thousands of people visited and it was a fantastic day with lots of fun to keep everyone happy. There was lots of community engagement with both the officers and our volunteers.
“People were interested to find out about the museum, so we were kept busy!”
Many visitors were keen to hear about the Museum Open Days and are eager to visit the Arpley Street, Warrington, venue.
The free Open Days are on Fridays from 10am to 3pm on August 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th, and everyone is welcome.
